De-Balkanizing Balkan Musik
Within the framework of the ERASMUS+ project Music4Change this two-day event highlights through academic reflection and artistic research how sonic stereotypes of the Balkans can be questioned, recontextualized and cross-blended with a larger musical cosmopolitanism. It will also discuss the political border-crossing dimensions of sound in the context of current discussions about “cultural citizenship” as an activity of proactive artivism. A keynote and roundtable with renown popular music expert Professor Rajko Muršič (University of Ljubljana) will be followed by practical workshops with Kosovo born singer Irina Karamarković (Graz), and the outstanding Split-based percussionist Darko Stanojkovski-Grappone and jazz guitarist Darko „Charlie“ Jurković bridging Indian musical aesthetics with Balkan rhythms.
All parts of the event, co-hosted by the Jazz and music education department of the GMPU are open for students, university members and external guests.
