MENTORING PROGRAM

Our mentoring program is a project run by the Young SOG in collaboration with the SOG office and serves to promote exchange and stronger networking between (Y)SOG members.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The aim of our mentoring program is to strengthen networking within the SOG and give SOG members the opportunity to share their experiences with students and young professionals from the ranks of the Young SOG. Members of the Young SOG, in turn, can gain insights into career fields related to Southeast Europe (SOE) and receive support in all aspects of starting their careers.

PROCESS

Following the registration phase (July–August of each year), mentors and mentees are assigned to the AG Mentoring program in a matching process and notified of the results. If both parties agree to the assignment, the mentor and mentee become part of the annual mentoring cycle, which officially begins on October 1 of each year. The program is designed to last 12 months. Shorter or longer cycles are possible in exceptional cases. It is possible to participate in the program more than once, but first-time mentees have priority.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM
We expect mentees to be:

  • members of the SOG;
  • at the end of a qualification phase/course of study;
  • willing to proactively contact their mentor;
  • able to accept criticism.

We expect mentors to:

  • have several years of (professional) experience in their field;
  • be open to questions (and concerns, if applicable) from mentees;
  • build a friendly cooperation with their mentee;
  • apply a structured approach.
