„Griechische Arbeitsmigration“: The Greek Gastarbeiter in the Federal Republic of Germany (1960-1974)

Vortragende: Maria Adamopoulou, Bukarest

Why is it important to study the Greek Gastarbeiter migration today? What can we learn about the conditions that push people to migrate and about the complexity of their motives? What is the role of the sending state in maintaining the transnational bonds with its migrants abroad? What are the primary sources the historian has in her disposal to trace the history of Greek migration to Germany? These are some of the questions that will guide our discussion in the occasion of the launch of the book The Greek Gastarbeiter in the Federal Republic of Germany (1960-1974) published in 2024 by De Gruyter.

Maria Adamopoulou is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IEG in Mainz.
