Love and Solidarity against Fear. Legimitation Strategies of the Student Movement in Serbia

Dr. Jelena Lončar, Faculty of Political Science, Belgrade

Protests against the regime in Serbia started as early as 2016, but the 2024-2025 student-led protests have been the largest and longest so far. They have also enjoyed unexpectedly high levels of public support, with recent surveys consistently showing that around 60% of the Serbian population supports the protests (CRTA 2025).

How have the students managed to gain and maintain this widespread support? The talk by political scientist Dr. Jelena Lončar seeks to explain this by focusing on the legitimization strategies employed by the student movement as seen in their public appearances on the popular political talk show "Utisak nedelje".
