On the topic
One year after the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad, the Serbian student movement is once again calling for a commemorative protest in Novi Sad on November 1. What began as an outcry for 16 lost lives against corruption and political opacity has evolved into a broad movement for democracy and the rule of law. President Aleksandar Vučić has responded to the growing mobilization with increased control and repression against protesters. The protesters are demanding new elections and a political restart, while Vučić has indicated that early parliamentary elections could take place no sooner than the end of 2026.
In this panel discussion we will discuss the events marking the anniversary in Novi Sad on November 1 and take a broader look at the current situation in the country one year after the protests began.
